'Yare' is an old popular phrase that has existed since the 1990s. It is presumed to have been a regional popular phrase, especially in the Gyeongnam region or Busan Metropolitan City. Then, much later, in 2025, it began to regain popularity, primarily among the younger generation and teenagers. Comedian Ryu Geun-il is cited as the main reason for its resurgence, having popularized the exclamation 'Yare~' while performing mukbang (eating show) on his YouTube channel 'Utgorism'. Some also claim that mukbang YouTuber Kwon Hoe-hoon used it first, and it's possible that the commonality of mukbang YouTube influenced its spread.

'Yare' is fundamentally a positive exclamation, similar to 'Ahtssa', 'Oh yeah', 'Shin-nanda' (I'm excited), or 'Nice', shouted when feeling good or succeeding. It is used by exclaiming 'Yare~!' when achieving something, succeeding, or simply when something good happens. Recently, it is also used as an exclamation of surprise, fun, or mild mischief, and sometimes even to express a reaction in embarrassing or absurd situations. Rather than a precise dictionary definition, it's an expression of exclamation, agreement, or reaction derived from an online meme, and it tends to be perceived as a light, meaningless interjection.

Initially, it was mainly used by young people, such as middle school students, in the Gyeongnam region and Busan Metropolitan City. Since its resurgence in 2025, it has rapidly spread, primarily among the younger generation and teenagers. It is actively used in online communities such as TikTok, Discord, and game chats.
